Winemaker - Geraldine McFaul
Geraldine graduated BApp.Sc. with Distinction, from Charles Sturt University in 1995 and during her course was selected as the Ron Potter Scholarship winner for an 18 months trainee winemaking position at that University. This was followed by 6 months as Post-Graduate Assistant Winemaker at the University before joining Stonier Wines for the 1997 vintage. The experience at Stonier kindled a passion for cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
After nine years and thirteen vintages in the cooler climate regions of Australia and France, Geraldine has become increasingly focused on the unique interaction between vineyard site, viticultural practices and winemaking.
Having completed a vintage in the Loire Valley in 1996, Geraldine returned to France for the 2002 vintage at Domaine de L’Arlot in Burgundy. Here, the absolute focus on vineyard typicity and individual site expression, reinforced an interest in the evolution of single vineyard wines. With characteristic focus, Geraldine comments “I want to retain the individual site characteristics throughout the winemaking process. I can then determine the ultimate suitability of each parcel as either a single vineyard wine or as an integral part of varietal blend.”
Now based at Willow Creek vineyard in Merricks North, Geraldine is responsible for making many of the Elgee Park wine varieties.
